We often talk about the risks the social media with regards to use. The complaints range from wasting time to developing body image issues. Due to its fast paced nature, social media is where a number of users first hear news. Newer users, not always familiar with the functionality of these platforms, treat posts from uninformed sources as the gospel truth, purely on merit of having seen it on the internet. But, perhaps more worrying issue, is that often the truth is irrelevant. When you’re telling your friend a shocking fact about pandas, or sharing some juicy celebrity gossip, do you really care if it’s true?
In 2020, the world was swept a relatively unknown illness, that seemed to be easily transferable with widely varies symptoms. All of a sudden, the truth mattered in a way it hadn’t for years. ‘Are you sure’, a visual narrative, explores the concepts of fear and misinformation during a global pandemic.
